Liverpool will allow Loris Karius to go on free transfer in January
Liverpool are set to let Loris Karius leave the club as a free agent in the upcoming January transfer window.
According to an exclusive report from Liverpool ECHO, Loris Karius could finally be on the verge of a definitive exit from Anfield. The Liverpool keeper has a contract in Merseyside until the summer of 2022, but it looks like Liverpool are ready to let him leave the club in the upcoming January transfer window as a free agent.
A former Mainz, Karius joined Liverpool in 2016. But the German faltered in England, as did Chelsea superstar Kepa Arrizabalaga, failing to maintain consistency in his performances as his error-prone nature made him a hit. slandered figure at Anfield.
Although the 28-year-old remained at Liverpool for the first two seasons despite his poor performances, a costly mistake in the 2018 UEFA Champions League final was the boiling point for many fans. And unsurprisingly, the goalkeeper was sent to Besiktas the following summer, on a two-year loan deal.
During his time in Turkey, Karius made 67 appearances competing for the Black Eagles but failed to make a lasting impact. As a result, he had to spend another season on loan, this time at Union Berlin, in the 2020/21 campaign.
A return to the Bundesliga turned out to be much worse than expected as the German couldn’t move Andreas Luthe between the sticks. He made a total of four league appearances before returning to Anfield this summer.
While a permanent move away from Anfield seemed likely, Karius ended up making the first team. However, he has yet to feature in a single game and has fallen behind Allison, Adrian and Caiohmin Kelleher in the pecking order.
A move away from Merseyside could therefore serve Karius well, especially during the January transfer window. With the busy schedule in European football, many teams are waiting for additional goalkeepers to serve as assistants. The German’s experience at the highest level of football, in this regard, could prove to be of great benefit.
At just 28 years old, Karius has many years ahead of him and has the potential to rekindle his old self elsewhere. Sadly, neither club have been making too much noise about his services lately, so it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Liverpool star in the months to come.
