Manchester United and Watford set to complete Ethan Laird loan deal – Reuters

Manchester United and Watford are in talks over the loan of right-back Ethan Laird.

The youngster, who got his first taste of Championship football last season with Swansea City and Bournemouth, is looking to make his next steps for the new season.

His pre-January experience was great as he reunited with a manager he had previously worked with at Russell Martin.

However, a move to Bournemouth in search of promotion proved difficult as he arrived at the club injured and then failed to impress Scott Parker.

He was expected to move to the Premier League with the same club but after a disastrous period, it looks like his progress has been reset.

Now will be a good time to impress at Watford, who have promotion ambitions following their relegation from the Premier League last season.

According to Fabrizio Romano, United and the London-based club are ready to agree a deal for Ethan Laird.

He said in a tweet “Manchester United and Watford are ready to complete the deal for the loan of Ethan Laird.”

“Deal to be finalized this week.”

“Ten Hag, happy with potential and attitude but Laird must play – Watford intend to proceed with loan deal.”

This could be worrying news as Aaron Wan-Bissaka appears not to be seen as Erik ten Hag is looking to push him forward.

Diogo Dalot will be the only recognized right-back with first-team experience if Erik ten Hag allows both players to leave.

United could have another right-back but the priority still remains midfield as a potential deal for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong has yet to fully fall apart.
