Official: Sergio Oliveira joins Roma on loan

Roma have officially unveiled midfielder Sergio Oliveira as their latest winter transfer market acquisition.

Oliveira, 29, joins Roma from Portuguese club FC Porto on an initial loan deal until June 30, 2022. As part of the deal, an option has been included which would see the Giallorossi return permanent transfer.

The veteran midfielder, who also passed through Nantes and PAOK, expressed his joy at moving to the Italian capital to begin his first Serie A experience.

“It’s amazing to be here at this great club,” Oliveira told Roma’s official website.

“Roma have always shown a real interest in me and now I want to try to immediately help the team achieve all their goals and continue to develop the right mentality.

“I’m sure that my new teammates, alongside whom I can’t wait to start working, will also help me to continue to improve.”

Roma executive Tiago Pinto has explained that the Portugal international’s character and personality will be among the most important assets he will bring to the team.

“Sergio is a player who will add quality and character to our team,” explained Pinto.

“He has won a lot in his career and gained experience at the highest level, representing both club and country in some of the most important competitions in the world.

“His desire to join Roma was decisive for us to reach an agreement: we think it is very important to continue to bring in players who want to play for this club.”
