Pogba talks end; Newcastle need ‘exceptional’ offer for new boss
Paul Pogba’s contract renewal talks at Manchester United have stalled as Newcastle continue their search for a new manager …
MAN UTD CANNOT DISCUSS NEW POGBA AGREEMENT
Mino Raiola will not discuss a new deal for Paul Pogba at Manchester United until April, according to reports.
The French international’s deal expires at the end of the season with no obvious resolution to his contractual situation. There has been constant speculation over the past few years, led by his agent Raiola, that Pogba may be in the process of leaving Man Utd.
Juventus and Real Madrid have been the two most closely linked clubs and Pogba will be free to talk to foreign clubs about a free transfer in January. And now the Spanish publication LIKE says Pogba is “back on the Madrid radar”, but the Red Devils “will not stray”.
United ‘will put the meat on the spit’ but his agent, Raiola, said the talks “won’t take place until April” with the “waiting time” convenient for Real Madrid and other potential suitors. It is said to be a “maneuver to see what happens to the situation of Pogba himself in the plans of” Man Utd, the report adding that there is “no harmony with Solskjaer and Pogba” .
With Kylian Mbappe, another player courted by Real Madrid, the La Liga giants could use Pogba as “a goad to cheer on his friend” this summer.
TEN HAG IN NEWCASTLE?
Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag says it will take an “exceptional and extraordinary offer” to tempt him to leave the Dutch club for Newcastle United.
The Magpies are already closely linked with former Arsenal winger Marc Overmarsl, who holds the post at Ajax and has been praised for his role in recruiting and developing talent. But now it is the manager of the Dutch club who is heavily linked with a move to Newcastle following their takeover by a consortium led by Saudi Arabia.
The Ajax boss has won two Eredivisie titles since arriving in 2017 and guided a young side to the Champions League semi-finals in 2019 – a strike from Lucas Moura in the 96th minute knocking them out of the competition . Ten Hag still has nearly three years on his contract but can leave after only three months’ notice if he receives an offer, due to a clause in his contract.
Addressing speculation about a possible move to Newcastle, Ten Hag said: “Marc hasn’t informed me. I don’t think he’s hiding anything from me either. I’m not working on it and now is definitely not the time.
“I have no reason to think about it now. I am very happy at Ajax and give my all for the club every day.
“I know you can’t plan anything in football, but you have to make an exceptional and extraordinary offer if I am to change my plans.”
